When you are just starting out in your creative business, it’s hard to know everything you need to get on your way smoothly. Here is a list of resources to help you start crushing your business.
Podcasts | Free
Podcasts are a great way to find tips and tricks to get a jumpstart on your business. My favorites are Being Boss by Kathleen Shannon and Emily Thompson, Social Media Marketing Podcast by Social Media Examiner, Online Marketing Made Easy by Amy Porterfield, and Life Coach School by Brook Castillo.
Skillshare | Free – $10/month
Skillshare offers short online classes taught by creative experts. You can watch the classes on your own time and complete projects and post them. I love all the classes in the Entrepreneurship Category.
Lynda.com | $25/month
Lynda, like Skillshare, offers online classes in a variety of subjects. You can take in depth classes to learn how to use any software or learn HTML and CSS. I take classes to keep my coding and Photoshop Skills in tip-top shape.
WordPress.org | Free
WordPress is the most highly recommended blogging software out there. Its super easy to use and there are themes out there you can install to get your website up and running in no time.
Evernote | Free
Evernote is an app that you can use across all devices to keep you on track. You can keep to do lists, set reminders, jot down ideas, and even clip things from the web. I pretty much use it to store everything in my brain.
Dropbox | Free
Dropbox is an online file cabinet that you can access anywhere and share with friends. I use it to send proofs and final files to clients and to store contracts and other important docs.
Hootsuite | Free
Hootsuite helps me to manage all of my social media profiles and to schedule posts ahead of time. It’s perfect if you are promoting something I want to schedule your tweets ahead of time.
Mailchimp | Free – $10/month
It is important for you to build your email list from day one. Mailchimp can manage your email list and help you build campaigns with easy to use templates. Autoresponders are a great tool to send out
automatic emails to new subscribers, you will just have to upgrade to the paid service.
Freshbooks | $10/month
The best part of owning a business is making money. You need a way to manage all of your income and expenses so that you can see where your money is going and which products and services are making you the most dough. It also helps you invoice and keep track of customer payments. Bonus: It makes tax time way easier.
Canva | Free
Canva is a design tool that helps you create branded images in minutes. It is perfect if are not very confident in their design skills or if you are tired of opening Photoshop for every little thing.
