I set goals every year and I sometimes I have trouble making those goals happen. We are a month into the 2015 and this year I am going to kick ass. Here is what I am going to do to make things happen.
Have you ever heard the expression “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail?” It’s so true. It’s not enough to simply set goals for the year; you actually have to plan how you are going to take the steps to make those goals reality. The steps will help you chunk your goals down into actual steps you can take to crush your goals by the end of the year.
Here are the three steps to make your goals happen:
- Pick 3 goals that you want to achieve.
I love to set goals and I have been guilty of setting way too many goals for the year and I end up reaching very few if any. If you set too many goals, you can’t focus on the tasks it takes to achieve any of them. Your mind and energy will be going in a million different directions and you won’t have anything to show for it at the end of the year. Instead, only choose a couple of goals. This way you can really focus your energy on what it tasks to get them done.
- Set 3 mini-goals for each month that will help you reach your big goals.
Break each big goal into 12 mini-goals. This will help you see all the things that are involved in reaching your goal by the end of the year. The smaller goals will be less intimidating plus each month you will be getting closer and closer to crushing your goals. Win. Win.
- For each month, list 3 tasks for each week that you can tackle to help meet your mini-goals for the month.
This is where you go even further down the goal setting rabbit hole. For each week, list 3 tasks you can tackle to reach your monthly mini-goal. The tasks might be small, but that doesn’t matter. What matters that you are taking a step toward reaching your goals.
After you are done, you will have a roadmap that will lead you to having your best year ever. Go get started, already!
